Guinea Pigs Don’t Wear Pants

Written and Illustrated by Chris Paul Farias

Because who you are is beautiful and worthy of love.

This whimsically joyful picture book is an empowering children’s book that celebrates individuality across the rainbow-hued spectrum. With playful rhyme and exuberant illustrations, author-illustrator Chris Paul Rainbows Farias (they/them) celebrates the freedom to express yourself and the beauty of being exactly who you are.

Readers are invited to imagine a world where animals are hilariously limited in what they can do but humans are gloriously free to saunter, flaunt, and wear just what we want. From lipsticked llamas to tumbling giraffes, each page bursts with colorful chaos and loving affirmation.

At its heart, this is the book Chris wished they’d had as a kid growing up in a small town—one that gently opens the door to conversations about self-expression, gender, and being true to yourself.

The Way I Win

Written by Angela Hollett
Illustrated by Ayala Kaganovitch

The world is big enough for all kinds of fighters.

In his first Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament, a young boy steps onto the mat filled with nerves. He doesn’t always move the way others do. He doesn’t always follow the rules the way the world expects. But jiu-jitsu teaches him that his differences aren’t weaknesses—they are what make him strong.

The Way I Win is about finding your place without having to fit in. Told through a lyrical, reflective monologue and brought to life with vivid, emotionally rich illustrations, this powerful picture book celebrates the quiet resilience of kids who move through the world in their own way.

Nakano Takeko: The Last Onna Musha

Written by Sumiko Nakano
Illustrated by Alpha Yu

They trained her to be obedient. She trained herself for war.

In a crumbling empire where girls are expected to bow, Nakano dares to stand tall. Despite being raised in silence and poetry, she chooses the naginata over marriage and rebellion over obedience. When war comes to Aizu, she forms the Jōshitai, a corps of women warriors, and leads them into battle. Not for glory. Not for honor. But because no one else will.

Nakano Takeko: The Last Onna-Musha is for readers who believe sisterhood is a battle cry. This stunning graphic novel told by Takeko’s own descendant, Sumiko Nakano, reclaims the true story of Japan’s most legendary female warrior. A debut of rare intensity, this is a story of rage honed into resistance, grief carried like a weapon, and legacy born from love and fire.

She is a descendent of Nakano Takeko, the legendary onna-musha who defied expectations to fight for what she believed in. This is her first book for younger readers and a deeply personal tribute to the courage that runs in her blood.
