Letter from the Publisher: Eight Month Update

Dear Friends,

When Rebel Goose Books opened its doors, I wasn’t sure how quickly this dream would take flight. Now, looking back on these first eight months, I am grateful to say the journey has been even more amazing than I imagined.

We signed our first four titles and each one feels like a promise to the readers we’re here to serve. Guinea Pigs Don’t Wear Pants will burst onto the scene in June 2026, followed by The Way I Win later that fall. In 2027, we’ll bring you The Last Tiger and a stunning YA graphic novel about Nakano Takeko, a real-life female samurai. Each book represents the heart of our mission: bold stories that make kids feel brave, seen, and powerful.

One of the highlights this year was helping to curate the book nook at Tombolo, a pop-up art gallery and story museum in Vancouver. We partnered with other BC publishers to create a space filled with books and stories where kids could feel safe to be fully themselves. Watching families explore that nook reminded me why Rebel Goose exists.

Another milestone has been seeing our books announced in Publishers Weekly and Quill & Quire. Having our very first deals featured in book industry news roundups felt like a little signal that what we’re building is resonating beyond our own walls. And we’ve already started to gather some incredible support, with early blurbs from beloved figures like Fred Penner, Rosie O’Donnell, Paris Hilton, and other artists who share our belief in the power of children’s stories.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been laying the groundwork for a long publishing life. We partnered with Orca Book Publishers for distribution across North America. We’ve started building relationships with educators, libraries, and community spaces, because our books are meant to be lived with, not just shelved. And we’re experimenting with creative campaigns that bring stories off the page and into the world.

On a personal note, I want to thank every single person who has cheered us on. Every kind message, every shared post, and every conversation has reminded me why Rebel Goose exists. This press is not just about books, it’s about building safe, joyful spaces where kids can dream boldly and question freely.

We’re only at the beginning, and I can’t wait to share what comes next. Thank you for walking with us from the start.

With gratitude,
Susan
